Michael Gambon

Actor Michael Gambon, who played Harry Potter, the famous celebrity died on September 28 at the age of 82 from pneumonia. Years before the Irish-English actor succeeded the late Richard Harris in the fantasy film series as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, he began his career as a reputable theatrical performer trained by Laurence Olivier, for which he was awarded multiple Olivier Awards. Two SAG Awards, two Emmy nominations, four BAFTA Awards, and two film appearances followed.

David McCallum

 On September 25, at the age of 90, Scottish actor David McCallum, best known for his work on NCIS, passed away from natural causes. In the spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E., McCallum made his breakthrough as Russian secret agent Illya Kuryakin, who partnered with Robert Vaughn's American Napoleon Solo. Later on, McCallum starred in movies like Freud, A Night to Remember, The Great Escape, and The Greatest Story Ever Told. He made appearances in episodes of many well-known television programs, such as The Outer Limits, Law & Order, and Sex and the City.

Irish Grinstead

R&B girl group 702 member Rishi Grinstead passed away on September 16, according to a statement posted on Instagram by her sister Lemisha. 43 was Irish. Though her sister mentioned a "long battle," the singer had previously declared a break from performing due to "serious medical issues." The cause of death was not disclosed. Her twin sister Orish Grinstead, who was a member of the band's original lineup before dying of kidney failure in 2008, passed away 15 years prior to her. The Grinstead sisters, a girl group named after their hometown area code and raised in Las Vegas, became well-known in the late 1990s.

Steve Harwell

Smash Mouth's founding member and former frontman, Steve Harwell, passed away on September 4 at the age of 56. Formerly a rapper for the group Freedom of Speech (F.O.S. ), Harwell joined forces with Paul De Lisle, Greg Camp, and Kevin Coleman to form Smash Mouth in San Jose in 1994. The band's biggest hits were "Walkin' on the Sun," "All Star," and a version of "I'm a Believer" by The Monkees. Smash Mouth kept making records and performing even as their following year's popularity declined. Following the diagnosis of cardiomyopathy in 2013, Harwell experienced a series of medical complications, including acute Wernicke Encephalopathy and heart failure. Harwell announced his complete retirement from performing in 2021, citing persistent health problems.

Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffett, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter of "Margaritaville," an escapist classic, passed away on September 1 at the age of 76. A statement on his website revealed his passing. Buffett had rescheduled a series of concerts this past spring, stating that he had been hospitalized, though it did not specify a cause of death or the location of his death. With his breakthrough hit, "Margaritaville," which has since become a vacation anthem, Buffett gained international recognition in 1977. He later turned the racetrack into an empire, opening a number of shops, a chain of restaurants called Cheeseburger in Paradise, hotels, and clothing and shoe brands. Part of the inspiration for his beachy sound came from a 1971 trip he took to Key West, Florida, with fellow musician Jerry Jeff Walker.

Arleen Sorkin

At the age of 67, actress Arleen Sorkin passed away on August 24. She was most known for creating the character of Harley Quinn in the animated DC Universe. Her two Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress were secured by her breakout role as Calliope Jones Bradford on Days of Our Lives, which also set the stage for her next major career achievement. Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Paul Dini reached out to Sorkin, an old college friend, after watching an episode of the soap opera in which she dressed as a jester. He asked her to join the series as a witty sidekick for the Joker.  

Bob Barker

At the age of 99, Bob Barker, the genial host of The Price Is Right for 35 years, passed away on August 26. For many years, Barker was a constant on television, hosting the longest-running game show in American history and earning the highest salary of any game show host. Before television beckoned in 1956 and asked Barker to host Truth or Consequences, a position he would hold for eighteen years, Barker started his career in show business in radio. CBS assigned Barker the responsibility of leading one of the shows in its new ninety-minute daytime game show block in 1972. With a 32 share in households, The Price Is Right became an overnight sensation and almost a third of American televisions were tuned to it when it aired.

Ron Cephas Jones

The well-known stage and film actor Ron Cephas Jones, who played William Hill in the popular NBC family drama This Is Us, passed away on August 19 at the age of 66. He won two Emmys and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance as William, Randall Pearson's biological father played by Sterling K. Brown. Jones received praise for his performances in Clyde's, The Tempest, and Richard III on stage. He made appearances in movies like Across the Universe, Dolemite Is My Name, and Half Nelson in addition to television series like Luke Cage, Mr. Robot, Truth Be Told, and Law & Order: Organized Crime. His daughter, Jasmine Cephas Jones, an actor, survives him.

Dj Casper

Following a seven-year fight with cancer, Chicago musician DJ Casper, who wrote the internationally renowned dance anthem "Cha Cha Slide," passed away on August 7. He was fifty-eight. Casper got his start as a DJ and got his stage name from his habit of wearing all white while performing.

Angus Cloud

Angus Cloud, died on July 31 at the age of 25. He was a celebrity who died in 2023. His family  stated, "Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence."
