Celine Dion has demonstrated that she is also an amazing athlete.
In a video that was pre-recorded and played at the beginning of NBC's Sunday Night Football broadcast on October 6, Dion, who is 56 years old, astonished fans of the National Football League. The moment when two members of the crew poured Gatorade over the vocalist of "My Heart Will Go On" was the one that caught the attention of the audience the most.
In the introduction video, which was uploaded to the YouTube channel of the National Football League (NFL) after it was broadcast on Sunday night, Dion was seen addressing the camera while wearing a Super Bowl jersey that commemorated the rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys. Dion delivered an impassioned statement that centered on the teams that were competing against one another on Sunday night when they were playing.
This game has the ability to connect who we are to who we were, to demonstrate that our most strong memories and our most enduring loves can remain with us for the rest of our lives. I believe that this is the aspect of this game that I enjoy the most. Could it be that you are aware of what I am referring to? The song "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" by Dion, which was released in 1996, was playing in the background as she spoke to the camera. Every once in a while, on certain evenings, it all simply comes back. The love affair. Well, maybe not ‘love’ the way I normally sing about it. But still… work with me here.”
Dion said, “Like tonight, evoking the kind of magic they once produced. The Cowboys and the Steelers, a timeless classic on Sunday Night.” She then let the video’s producers help her recreate the legendary coach moment of being wet with a cooler of Gatorade, enabling the players to let the sports’ drink flood over her head.
Completely drenched and apparently stunned by the freezing temperature of the drink, Dion is then shown grinning and even fist-pumping the air, demonstrating her sense of humor and passion for the game.
The surprise athletic cameo comes just three months after she sang at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics opening ceremony. Taking to social media on July 26 after she concluded her long-awaited return to the stage, she stated via Instagram, “I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities! Most of all, I’m so glad to be commemorating these incredible athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and drive, agony and perseverance.”

The star, whose last live performance before the Olympic Games took place four years earlier, said, “All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be extremely proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the greatest of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you!”
Dion was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in December 2022. As a result of the diagnosis, she was forced to cancel many performances, communicating the startling news with her legion of admirers via Instagram at the time.
“Hello, everyone. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to reach out to you. I miss you all so much and I can’t wait to be on stage chatting to you in person. As you know, I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I’m ready now,” an emotional Dion said in an Instagram video on December 8 that year. “I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through.”
Dion’s return to the stage at the 2024 Olympic Games comeback was an acknowledged triumph, delivering a dramatic version of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” at the base of the Eiffel Tower.
