Following months of rumors, Jennifer Lopez has come clean about her and Ben Affleck's marriage being on rocky ground.

Divorce records filed by Lopez, 55, and acquired by Us Weekly on Tuesday, August 20, show that the couple formally called it quits on April 26.

As People revealed that Lopez and Affleck, 52, had not been seen together publically for more than 47 days, rumors started to circulate about conflict between the two.

At the time, Lopez and Affleck had not been seen together since March 30 in New York City, when they were observed clasping hands. (Their previous red carpet appearance, meantime, came back in February for the opening of Lopez's This Is Me... Now: A Love Story.)

May found Lopez getting ready to cohost the 2024 Met Gala in Manhattan. The singer said on Vogue's official Instagram page at the time that she was having trouble choosing what to wear to the function.

She wrote in the April 17 post tracking her preparation, "I have a few different sketches, I'm still deciding." She excitedly discussed her cohosting responsibilities, grinned for the camera, and told viewers that being chosen by Anna Wintour was a "real honor."

Ten days after the couple quietly split, Lopez went to the Met Gala alone on May 6. She also showed up for the Los Angeles and Mexico City premiere of her Netflix picture, Atlas, without Affleck later that month.

Lopez was asked a question regarding her marriage to which her Atlas costar Simu Liu quickly closed down at the Mexico City premiere. "OK, we're not doing that," the 35-year-old actor said. "Thanks so much, everybody. We truly appreciate it.

Lopez paused then answered the query personally. You know better than that, she remarked.

An insider specifically informed Us that Lopez and Affleck were "having issues in their marriage," which supposedly started when Lopez increased "work commitments," ready for her This Is Me... Live Tour. Later on, Lopez canceled the tour, citing desire to "be with her children, family, and close friends," per an email sent by Live Nation and her fan newsletter at the time.)

Furthermore mentioned by the source was Lopez's starting search for an investment property house in Los Angeles. According to a second informant, Affleck was lodging in Los Angeles, not the couple's acquired March 2022 house overlooking the Hollywood Hills.

A source told Us in June that Lopez and Affleck were negotiating the sale of their Los Angeles property. Lopez had her 55th birthday in the Hamptons sans Affleck the next month.

Lopez's Hamptons' trip fell on the second wedding anniversary of the split pair as well. With Affleck spending the July 16 celebration in Los Angeles, neither Lopez nor Affleck made any comments on the milestone.

First rumors of problems in Lopez and Affleck's marriage appeared when the couple went to the Grammys together in February 2023.

Filmed at the ceremony, the then-couple captured what some viewers assumed to be a conflict. Though Lopez told fans via Instagram that she had the "best night," with "my love, my husband," Affleck's less than enthusiastic attitude resulted in several internet memes at the time.

Telling Variety at the time, Lopez exclaimed about working with Affleck on the movie, "I feel like because Ben and I have rediscovered each other — and now that we're married — I have something to offer."

Though Lopez praised Affleck's cooperation, the Oscar winner said he had a certain degree of unease about being highlighted in Lopez's work at the moment.

"I did really find the beauty and the poetry and the irony in the fact that it's the greatest love story never told," he remarked during The Greatest Love tale Never Told, a documentary examining Lopez's more recent album. "If you are recording it, that seems kind of like telling it."

On the Gigli set in 2002, Lopez and Affleck crossed paths; November that year saw their engagement. They called off their planned September 2003 marriage just a few days earlier, and in January 2004 Lopez and Affleck declared their split.

Their narrative did not stop there, though. Us verified in May 2021 that the former couple were seeing one other and in July that year that Lopez and Affleck were seen house-hunting together.

The couple was married in a second ceremony in Georgia on August 20, 2022 after planning a surprise marriage in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022.

Two years later, to the date Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in a Los Angeles court.
