Is the 2.0 Bennifer a Dud? Rumors of a divorce have dogged Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez for weeks as they approach their second wedding anniversary in July.
At a press appearance in Mexico City on Wednesday, Lopez was promoting her Netflix film Atlas when a reporter inquired about the veracity of the rumors surrounding her marriage. Simu Liu, her co-star, cut her off before she could respond, declaring, "We're not doing that." "You know better than that," Lopez said to the reporter, refocusing the discussion on the movie.
What Has Been Occurring?
Twenty years after ending their first engagement, Affleck and Lopez reconciled in 2021. The next year, they tied the knot again, purchased a $60 million estate for their combined broods in 2023, and Lopez told the world about their "Greatest Love Story Never Told"—all of which occurred in spite of Affleck's alleged concerns about their personal lives being made public.
A barrage of rumors began to appear two months after Lopez's documentary and album This Is Me... Now, which included songs about their rediscovered love, were released. At the beginning of May, there were rumors that were stoked by two recent high-profile solo performances. (Affleck went to Tom Brady's Netflix roast by himself on May 5, while Lopez showed up at the Met Gala by herself on May 6.) Since then, a number of media sources have claimed that while they have been shown together, they are really living apart.
Regarding Affleck And Lopez's Romantic Situation, Who Is Saying What?
- The tabloid In Touch said on May 15 that Lopez, who is married for the fourth time, and Affleck, who is married for the second time, are "headed for a divorce" and are not living together.
- It was reported by People magazine on May 16 that it had been 47 days since the Afflecks were seen in public together.
- Us revealed the same day that "Jen and Ben are having issues in their marriage" and are now living apart, but they aren't divorcing.
- They were seen together that evening at a school function for one of Affleck's kids. They both had on their wedding bands.
- They were seen together at another school function on May 19. (Jennifer Garner, Affleck's ex-wife, shared on social media that their oldest daughter, Violet, had graduated.)
- Lopez did not attend Affleck's Atlas debut on May 20. She did make a passing reference to him when she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
- People said on May 22 that while they are still living separately, their marriage "is not in the best place." According to a source, their different personalities and how they handle the things they discuss about their lives together are problems.
- When Lopez appeared at a news conference in Mexico City the same day, she was questioned about her romantic situation. Lopez and co-star Liu refuted it.
Our understanding of Bennifer 2.0
No one is certain of Lopez and Affleck's relationship status unless they make a public statement. What is known is as follows.
As far as celebrities go, they get a lot of criticism. Rumors have plagued them during both phases of their relationship. They put off their first wedding in 2003 due to intense media speculation, which has persisted ever since. Moreover, they haven't been able to dispel two myths: her reputation for relationship hopping, which she addressed in her two film projects and record earlier this year, and his image as "Sad Affleck" and the notion that he seems miserable all the time (though he claims not to be).
Their personalities are quite different from one another. According to Affleck, he informed her "one of the things I don't want is a relationship on social media" when they first reunited. Extremely private, he said that since she enjoys sharing, he has had to make a compromise. By exploring their renewed love in her documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Lopez acknowledged that she forced her boyfriend out of his comfort zone and referred to him as a “reluctant participant” in the narrative.
They carry bags. Their restored friendship is complex. Firstly, their ex-boyfriend relationship. When Affleck inquired about Lopez's forgiveness of him in her document, she candidly said, "I think I was angry at you for a long time," and then, "I think I've forgiven you all the way." Two other family were difficult to fit in. Reuniting their five children—her twins from Marc Anthony and his triplets from Jennifer Garner—was described by Lopez as "a really emotional transition."
They haven't had an easy year. Twenty million of Lopez's own funds went into financing the two film projects this year. Many others questioned why she was "trying to prove something" by doing the vanity project about her relationship with Affleck rather than the two of them simply enjoying their life, including her Monster-in-Law co-star Jane Fonda, who makes an appearance in the documentary.

2024 was supposed to be Lopez's year, but "weak" ticket sales caused her tour, This Is Me... Live, which begins in June, to be canceled. The album debuted at the bottom of her career's ranking.
Affleck manages his own criticism, as seen by his participation in the Tom Brady roast. Brady was intended to be the target of jokes, but instead he broke down in tears over social media, criticizing trolls for "talking shit... behind your f***ing keyboard." There isn't a more messed up, dysfunctional, or terrible functioning system that is intended to make people feel bad all the time. He received backlash for it in addition to unfavorable rumors about his looks.
